Dr. C. C Bates – is an Associate Professor in Literacy Education at Clemson University in South Carolina, where she is the Director of the Reading Recovery and Early Literacy Center. Dr. Bates has a Ph.D. from Georgia State University in Language and Literacy and is a former classroom teacher and reading interventionist. Dr. Bates is currently the principal investigator on two large grants that together total over $2,000,000. Dr. Bates and Computer Science Ph.D. student, Sam Bryfczynski, developed the Record of Reading, an iOS app that assists with oral reading assessment. The Record of Reading received the InnoVision Award in 2015 and to date has been downloaded over 170,000 times. Her work has been published in The Reading Teacher, Young Children, and The Journal of Digital Learning in Teacher Education.  She has recently published a new book, Interactive Writing: Developing Readers through Writing
