Sensitive Observation: A critical art and science
Online Professional Learning Session – This session has been recorded and is available for repeat viewing until August 31, 2022.
Presented by: Dr. Allyson Matczuk, Reading Recovery Trainer and Early Literacy Consultant
The Observation Survey, moment-by-moment real-time assessments, daily reflections, and weekly reviews all inform the teaching decisions made in Reading Recovery and Literacy Lessons. In order to make the most powerful, astute decisions, teachers need use the best information available. That information relies on sensitive and purposeful observation. In this session, we will take time to consider the opportunities available within the lesson time to set a purpose and carefully consider when and what to observe. Reflections on those observations and the effect of our teaching to foster growth leads to teaching on the cutting edge of each child’s learning.
