When students are not making accelerated progress, Clay (2016) asks us to take a closer look at ourselves and at our student’s literacy behaviors. This session offers an in-depth exploration of Clay’s guidance about adjusting teaching “when acceleration is compromised” (2016, p. 165).
Dr. Betsy Kaye – is Assistant Professor and Director of the Department of Reading at Texas Women’s University where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses and serves as a Trainer of Reading Recovery teachers and teacher leaders. Dr. Kaye has worked as a Reading Recovery Teacher, classroom teacher and a special education teacher. She has published several articles about teaching young children who initially struggle with literacy learning. She is currently pursuing research in the development of self-monitoring in reading and writing.
